A special edition of the Kardeş Kalemler journal, dedicated to the 175th anniversary of great son of the Turkic world, the Kazakh poet and thinker Abay Kunanbayuly, was published.
This was announced by chairman of the Eurasian Union of Writers, Yakub Omeroglu, on his personal page.
We are devoting the next issue of the Kardeş Kalemler Literary Journal, which is distributed all over the Turkic world, to the 175th anniversary of the great poet and thinker Abay Kunanbayuly. Articles about Abay have also been published in previous editions of the journal and will be published in other issues. However, through this special edition, we tried to provide you with a comprehensive, full collection of articles on Abay.
The first article in the special issue about Abay is an article by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, published in the Egemen Qazaqstan newspaper in November. The article was translated by Elmira Kaljanova, an expert at the International Turkic Academy. We present this very important article to convey the views of the President of Kazakhstan on Abay.
President Tokayev in his article notes that “Abay Kunanbayuly made an indelible mark on the history of the country as a wise, thinker, poet, enlightener, founder of new national literature, translator, and composer. He also shared his thoughts that works of Abay deeply reflect and show the national identity and structure of Kazakhs, their way of life, outlook, behavior, inner world, religion and mentality, their understanding and language, and spirit.
The world of Abay is very important to research. The world of Abay is the spiritual soul of Kazakh people. And considering that Turkic peoples are all brothers, the world of Abay is the Turkic world. In fact, the world of Abay can be considered as an important part of the universal heritage of mankind, as it is not confined to the Turkic world, it can be used to solve general problems of humanity.
In this issue of our journal, we present a small collection of Abay’s poems. We have published Turkish translations of Abay’s poems by poet Kenen Carbo.
As the Union of Writers of Eurasia, we will hold even more events dedicated to the Year of Abay.
We will conduct various contests throughout the year to promote and display Abay’s heritage in Turkey. Deeper
discovery of the spirit of Abay will rise the esteem of the world community to Kazakhstan and to Kazakh people.
Increased positive interest in Kazakhs and Kazakhstan will undoubtedly strengthen the image of the Turkic world. For us, this is a landmark event.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to express our congratulations on the 175th anniversary of the birth of great Abay, and I truly believe that his name and works will continue to live in the Turkic world.
