The International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) celebrated the Great national holiday for all Turkic people - Nauryz


Public and state figures, representatives of embassies and diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Hungary, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Iran, Turkologists, as well as representatives of ethnocultural centers and mass media took part in the festive event.

The guests of the holiday held the ancient tradition of our ancestors called “Hitting hammers and chests (Balgamen tos sogu)”. According to a legend described in Rashid-ad-Din’s “Jami at-Tawarih”, when people of El Khan, the famous Oghuz khan's descendant, were persecuted, they hid in Ergenekon Gorge on the slopes of the Altai Mountains, where could survive. The people, who lived in a narrow gorge, melt the iron part of the mountain in March, and found the way to the slopes of the mountain shown by a grey wolf. Then they won their enemy and liberated their land. Thus, every year they celebrate the Day of breaking free from Ergenekon in March. It is considered that the celebration of the year renewal has since been called the Great national holiday. In addition, the great tradition of Turkic rulers of heating each other’s hammers and chests, burning coal, melting iron appeared to that legend. This historic tradition was presented in the Turkic Academy today at Nauryz Holiday.


In his welcoming speech Darkhan Kydyrali, the head of the Academy, said:

“The last year was successful for the Academy. The Turkic Council summit held in Bishkek was successful too. Presidents familiarized themselves with the Academy's work plan, highly appreciated and approved it. The Turkic Integration Concept", prepared by the Academy, was adopted by the Presidents. Hungary, which was actively involved in the summit, gained the observer status at the International Turkic Academy. Thus, the Academy included one more fraternal country. At the same time, the “Common Turkic History” textbook, “Geography of the Turkic World” and “Common Turkic Literature”, prepared by the Academy, are included in the curriculum of the Turkic Council member states. The International Turkic Academy pays special attention to the development, research and protection of Turkic languages. Last year, the Turkic Language Festival was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The Academy successfully conducted archeological expeditions in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. In the near future such expeditions will be continued in Hungary and Uzbekistan. The Memorandum was signed with the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.


The Academy also plans to celebrate major events of the Turkic world in 2019 at a high level. In particular, it is the 10th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Agreement, which laid the foundation for establishing the Turkic Council. The 100th Anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's National Movement is also a remarkable date. Moreover, it is the 75th anniversary of famous Hungarian Turkologist Kongur Mandoki. Also, this year marks 650 years since the birthday of the great poet Nasimi. The Academy will publish poet’s collection in Azerbaijani and Kazakh languages. This year is also the 750th anniversary of the Golden Horde. In 2019, it is the 750th anniversary of the Talas congress, which laid foundations for establishing of a number of Turkic states in Central Asia. The Academy will also issue special books for this historic jubilee and conduct joint scientific events with Turkic countries. The Academy will expand cooperation. It is expected that Uzbekistan will be able to get membership  at the Academy in the upcoming summits. Mongolia also intends to get observer status. The Academy intends to sign a joint Memorandum with UNESCO in the near future. Let the New Year be a blessing to all fraternal peoples, and to strengthen our friendship and prosperity! "


Then, in honor of the holiday, the eminent scientist, honored state and public figure of the Turkic world Myrzatay Zholdasbekov congratulated the public.


Rashad Mammadov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kazakhstan, speaking at the event, has pointed out that Nauryz holiday is a common holiday for the Turkic world and has great integration potential. Rashad Mammadov also noted that the International Turkic Academy serves to strengthen the unity of the neighboring countries.
