Turkic Academy has awarded famous American turkologist


Today, in the city of Astana International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) has awarded TWESCO’s Silver medal to an outstanding turkologist Timur Kocaoglu for special merits before the science of the Turkic world and for contribution to the strengthening of cooperation between brotherly peoples.

The ceremony held in the Academy’s Library was attended by public figures, research scientists, intellectuals and journalists, who arrived to take part in the 2nd Forum of Social Sciences "The Great Steppe" to be held on May 26th.

The Award was presented by the head of the Academy D.Kydyrali, he expressed gratitude to the scholar for active participation in many research projects carried out by the TWESCO and wished success.


It should be noted that Timur Kocaoglu, a son of the Head of Bukhara People’s Republic Usman Kocaoglu, was born in Istanbul in 1947. An outstanding teacher, who lectures in many Turkic languages, ​​ today, is the deputy director of the Scientific Center for Eurasian, Russian and European Studies at the University of Michigan. He is an author of many fundamental works on languages, literature and culture of Muslims in the Soviet Union and Central Asian peoples.
