Forum of Social Sciences "The Great Steppe" was held in Astana

Today, 2nd Forum of Social Sciences "The Great Steppe" organized by the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) was held in Astana.

The opening ceremony of the Forum dedicated to the article of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev "The Course towards Future: Modernization of Public Conscience" was attended by the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova, as well as heads and representatives of the UN, UNESCO, ISESCO, ECO Science Foundation, the Turkic Council, TURKSOY, and TurkPA. Moreover, the Secretary of State Gulshara Abdykalikova opened the event with the welcoming speech and read a congratulatory letter of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, where he wished good luck to the forum, which involved diplomats, state and public figures, heads of research centers, prominent scientists and researchers.

At 6 panel sessions of the Forum about 200 scientists and experts from United States, Germany, Hungary, China, Mongolia, South Korea, India, Russia and the Turkic countries made reports and  discussed objectives and topics raised in the article of the President.

During the forum such issues as the development of science, transition of Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet, the "Motherland" program dedicated to the holy and sacred places and other were discussed at the following panel sections: "Towards spiritual revival", "Cult of Science: Scientific Integration and Common Values", "Historical Memory and a Look into the Future", "Turkic literary traditions and modernity", "Turkic languages: Research, Preservation and Promotion" and " Turkic cultural heritage in the context of World civilization".

At the same time, within the framework of the Forum, TWESCO awarded gold medals to prominent state and public figure academician Myrzatai Zholdasbekovich Zholdasbekov and well-known scientist and public figure of the Republic of Tatarstan, academician Mirfatykh Zakievich Zakiyev, who celebrated his 90th anniversary this year, for contribution to science of the Turkic World and to the strengthening of cooperation between brotherly peoples.

In addition, within the event TWESCO organized an exhibition of books published in recent years.
