TWESCO has summed up the international expedition which has started in Kentay and continued in Ulytau


Today, the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) has presented to the public results and scientific discoveries of the 3rd International Expedition "From Kentay to Ulytau: Modernization of the Historical Memory" in the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. Moreover, discoveries of the excavations held for the last two years at the ancient Shivet Ulaan Memorial Complex in Mongolia were presented.

Officials and diplomats, members of the Majilis of Parliament of Kazakhstan, outstanding Turkologists and historians from Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan. Also the event was attended by prominent statesmen and public figures, participants of the 3rd international expedition, intelligentsia and journalists.

The head of the Academy Darkhan Kydyrali, who opened the meeting, told about the purpose and importance of the 3rd international expedition organized with the support of the Institute of History and Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Mongolia. He emphasized the importance of researching valuable historical monuments of the Turkic world that are concentrated on the territory of modern Mongolia, with the aim of  modernization of the historical consciousness and sacred places which are of a special attention in the program of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev "Spiritual revival". He announced that the the 3rd international expedition that started on 15th of August, 2017, in holy Burkhan Khaldun Mountain in Mongolia and finished on 16th of September in Ulytau, Central Kazakhstan was successfully completed on the eve of the 750th anniversary of the Golden Horde. 

D.Kydyrali also spoke about successful projects that were implemented due to the signing memorandums and establishing close cooperation with leading research organizations of Mongolia. He told about the ancient Turkic memorial complexes of Eastern Mongolia and stone sculptures that were not studied before. He also shared the news that the scientific copies of golden, silver jewelry of Bilge Kagan and some rare artifacts, kept in the fund of the National Museum of Mongolia, were taken.

At the same time, it became known that the administration of the National Museum of Mongolia agreed to provide scientific copies of valuable articles of the Hun and Turkic era. In addition, the two sides agreed to create a "topographical map of ancient names of land-sites of Mongolia" on the basis of ancient Mongolian and Turkic inscriptions such as Kultegin, Bilge kagan, Tonikuk, "Mongolian secret history" and "Altyn Tovch". Deputy Director of the National Museum of Mongolia Bayarsaihan Zamsrandzhavin told about it.

Well-known statesman Myrzatay Zholdasbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Conscience, Religion, Mercy and Charity of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation Murat Zargishiyev, who actively participated in the final stage of the expedition from Kentay to Ulytau, and the executive secretary of one of the leading Kyrgyz editions "Kyrgyz Tuusu" Nazarbek Baizhigitov also spoke at the meeting and shared their views. Besides, a Turkish famous scientist, journalist and columnist of the Gazete Vatan newspaper Kursat Zorlu, who regularly participates in the Academy's expeditions in 2015, in 2016 and this year, made a presentation. In his speech, he said that the Academy's scientific expeditions would explore, reveal, and glorify the sacred places of Turkic peoples and bring the light to unknown places of our common history.

Then the Academy’s expert Napil Bazylhan, who participated in the 3rd international expedition and studied those areas, made a special presentation and reported on the second phase of the excavation at the Shivet Ulaan complex.

Recall that the Academy conducted the excavations in the Shivet Ulaan Memorial Complex in Mongolia for 58 days from July 2 to August 28, 2016, which is the most important place in the history of the Turkic world. This year, as a result of excavations in the same complex, 2 new stone and other objects were discovered.

According to the results of preliminary research by scientists of the Turkic academy, Shivet  Ulaan was built in honor of the East Turkic Empire kagan Elteris Kutluk kagan (682-692), who ruled the Eurasian space, gathered all nomadic ethnos and provided country's independence.

In addition, in 2017 the Academy installed iron fence around the historic complex in order to protect it. The possibility of building a museum in the sky at the Shivet-Ulaan complex in the future is being considered.

At the end of the solemn ceremony, head of the TWESCO Darkhan Kydyrali expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in the expedition.

It is worth noting that on the basis of the 3rd international expedition "From Kentay to Ulytau: Modernization of the Historical Memory", which was attended by historians and journalists of 7 Turkic states, the Turkish NTV channel and the Kazakh "Khabar" TV channel will develop documentary films.
