Kyrgyzstan has assumed the chairmanship of the TurkPA


Today, the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA) and the 7th Plenary Session took place in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan).

Parliament speakers and vice speakers from organization’s member states such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, as well as representatives of international organizations participated in the event. In addition, delegations from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were honorary guests of the event and Hungary participated as the observer country. 

On behalf of the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO), organization’s permanent secretary Askhat Kessikbayev took part in the event.

Before the official events, members of the delegation laid flowers on the Urkin memorial in Ata-Beyit complex and on the monument of the national writer Sh. Aitmatov.

At the Assembly meeting held at the Ala-Archa State residence, TurkPA Chairmanship was transferred from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. The Deputy Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Gulmira Isimbayeva officially announced it. 

Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Dastan Zhumabekov, who hosted the meeting, assumed chairmanship. D. Zhumabekov expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan for its productive work.

Then at the 7th Plenary Session of TurkPA, which was fully attended by all international delegations members, special commissions made reports on the activities implemented by the Organization in 2017. Also events planned for the upcoming 2018 were approved. During the meeting, individual proposals were made to optimize the work of the Parliamentary Assembly. 

In addition, following the 7th Plenary session, Altynbek Mamayusupov was appointed as a Secretary General of TurkPA. The candidacy of A. Mamayusupov, who was the representative of Kyrgyz Jogorku Kenesh in TurkPA before, was unanimously supported by the participants.

It should be noted that at the end of the 7th Plenary Session of TurkPA, which was established in 2008 in order to strengthen relations between the legislative bodies of the member states, a special document was adopted and the protocol was signed.
