President of Kazakhstan chaired the United Nations Security Council session
The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev chaired the session of the United Nations Security Council on "Non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction: confidence-building measures". The press service of Akorda reports.
Opening the meeting, the Head of State expressed gratitude for participating in the meeting to the UN Secretary General A.Guterres, the President of the Republic of Poland A.Duda and to other heads of delegations of the UN Security Council member states.
In accordance with the agenda, Nursultan Nazarbayev gave the floor to the UN Secretary General A. Guterres. Following the speech by Guterres, the President made a statement to the members of the Security Council.
Nursultan Nazarbayev noted Kazakhstan's contribution to the UN Security Council’s work last year.
The President of Kazakhstan said that on the way to peace and security confidence-building measures play a key role in preventing conflict and solving important global problems.
The Head of State stressed the need to include confidence-building measures permanently on the agenda and mentioned several factors that influence this.
The President of Kazakhstan underlined the need for deeper mental changes and multilateral new political decisions on strengthening the non-proliferation regime based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In this regard, Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed a number of measures aimed at strengthening confidence in the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
At the end of the session, the President drew attention to the importance of establishing mutual understanding and mutual trust between the world nuclear powers for the effective solution of conflicts.
The President of Poland A.Duda, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S.Lavrov also delivered a speech during the session.
In addition, President of Kazakhstan met with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New-York. Within the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of Kazakhstan’s Chairmanship in the UN Security Council.
