Researchers of Turkic languages were awarded

Head of the TWESCO Darkhan Kydyrali took part in the 19th International Conference on Turkic linguistics in Astana. The conference takes place at the Nazarbayev University in Astana. A number of foreign scientists and domestic researchers are participating there.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, the TWESCO president noted that the new stage of Turkic studies in Kazakhstan are directly connected with the establishment of the International Turkic Academy in Astana. He also noted that the Academy, initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A.Nazarbayev, is the only unique international center that organizes scientific research on history and language, literature and culture of Turkic peoples from ancient times until nowadays.

At present, the Turkic Academy has organized a series of expeditions on research of Turkic languages, which have spread to different regions. It has published good quality dictionaries that show the richness of language. Among them are Amir Najib's four-volume historical comparative dictionary of Turkic languages of 14th century, Old Turkic dictionary, and Manas dictionary.

"This year is a very important year for our language history. 125 years ago the Danish scientist V. Thomsen discovered the key of Turkic writing. It became a great news for the world community. Since then, fundamental studies on Turkic writing, on Turkology have been conducted, and various activities have taken place”, Darkhan Kydyrali said. He also noted that the International Turkic Academy always appreciates the work of scientists who have contributed to the development of Turkic studies in the world.

During the conference, the President of the TWESCO awarded Professor of the A.Mikkevich University Mr. G. Yankovsky and professor of the University of Frankfurt Ms. I.Nevskaya with W.Thomsen Medal, and Professor of the University of Uppsala E. Chato with the Academy’s special Gold Medal for studies of Turkic languages, including the Kazakh language.
