Turkey celebrates its language holiday


On September 26, Turkey celebratesthe Language Day. Various eventsdedicated to this holiday, which is celebrated since 1932, were held in Turkey.

Head of the Turkish Linguistic Society (TDK), Professor GurerGulsevin noted that a number of events were organized in honor of this holiday. In particular, Vice President of Culture and Tourism of Turkey AhmetHalukDursin and Head of the Atatürk SupremeCouncilfor Culture, Language and History Prof. DeriyaOrs delivered reports at the Turkish Linguistic Society. In addition, special awards for Contribution to the Turkish languagewere presented.

In general, the founder of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk directly influenced to establishment of the Language Holiday in Turkey. On September 26, 1932,the Turkish Language Congress began in the Dolmahce Palace for the first time. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the President of the Republic, took part in the nine-day Congress. At the end of the Congress, 26th of September was established as a Language Day, which is celebrated every year.
