Hungary was granted an observer status at the International Turkic Academy


At the informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member-states of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS, Turkic Council), which was held within the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the application of Hungary for the observer status at the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) was approved unanimously.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the meeting focused primarily on the current activities and prospects of the Turkic Council.

The implementation of the decisions taken at the CCTS Summit in Astana on 11 September 2015, as well as preparations for the next Summit that will be held in Kyrgyzstan were among the main issues on the agenda.

The ministers also discussed measures to expand cooperation between the Turkic Council and the United Nations and its special agencies.

In addition, as the term of the current Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ramil Hasanov will be completed, it became known that the next Secretary General will be elected from Kazakhstan. Participants said that the information on the appointment date and the term of a new Secretary General will be announced additionally.

Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Mr. Péter Szijjártó submitted an official application for obtaining a full-fledged observer status of Hungary at the International Turkic Academy in May 2017 while visiting the Academy.
