The Academy has completed the second phase of excavation in Mongolia

2057

The second stage of archeological excavations in Shivet ulaan Memorial Complex conducted by the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO) jointly with the Institute of History, Archeology at the National Academy of Sciences of Mongolia was held on June 15 - July 27, 2017.

As a result of archaeological excavations, started from cleaning up soils and stones strewed during the last year's slight freezing, new three sides of the main construction were completely formed and cleared.

It was found out that the square foundation of the eight-sided head construction was laid out of stone. Also, a new chest down bench was found on the excavation site. This is the second stone sculpture found on the territory of this ritual complex. We have already informed that during last year's research the similar sculpture was found.

In addition, during the cleaning of the main building site of the complex, the end of the knife, ornamental stone fragments, iron arrows, lacquer, agate stone beads, iron clamps were found.

In the ancient Turkic era, special ritual complexes were set up for officials, such as kagan, yabgu, shad, buiryk, tarkhan, tegin, and special rituals at the state level were conducted there. One of such oldest and unique ritual complexes in Central Asia is Shivet ulaan. The Academy will continue to research the ancient Turkic monument.

It should be noted that the Turkic Academy together with its Mongolian colleagues started the first excavations at the Shivet ulaan memorial complex last summer. In August 2016, on the basis of results of the expedition, TWESCO held the 2nd Field Workshop on "Great Steppe Nomads: historical and cultural harmony" with the participation of scientists and journalists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia and Turkey.
