“Within two months, starting from March 1918, the Armenian armed groups of Dashnak killed tens of thousands of civilians in the regions of Azerbaijan on ethnic and religious grounds, destroyed settlements, historical and cultural monuments and mosques. Unfortunately, these inhumane acts of theirs have not been considered or condemned from a legal point of view at the international level. As a result, years later, similar crimes were again committed in Khojaly and other regions.
In order to draw the attention of the world community to such bloody murders committed against Azerbaijanis in different periods of history, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, declared March 31 as the day of the genocide of Azerbaijanis.
On behalf of the International Turkic Academy, we sorrowfully remember the victims of the March 31 massacre and express our support to the fraternal Azerbaijani people and state. We call on the international community to take a fair position in relation to these events, so that such inhumane acts no longer occur, and peace and tranquility are preserved.”
