G. Aidarov’s book «Язык орхонских памятников древнетюркской письменности VІІІ века» reprinted 50 years later

Today, the International Turkic Academy has published and presented to the reader the scientific work of the outstanding Turkologist Gubaidulla Aidarov «Язык орхонских памятников древнетюркской письменности VІІІ века» (“The language of the Orkhon monuments of the ancient Turkic script of the XIII century”). The presentation of the fundamental, rare book, published more than 50 years ago was organized as part of an international conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of G. Aidarov.

The meeting at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was attended by Rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, President of the International Turkic Academy Darkhan Kydyrali, prominent Turkologist Osman Fikri Sertkaya, well-known scientist from the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Kuliev, famous writer Smagul Elubay, Professor of the Manas University of Kyrgyzstan Konkobayev Kadyrali, Scientific Director of the Institute of History, Language, Literature of the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Firdaus Khisamitdinova, Director of the Abai Research Institute of KazNU Zhangara Dadebayev, director of A. Baitursynov Linguistics Institute Anar Fazylzhanova, famous turkologist Erden Kazhybek, as well as children of G. Aidarov, well-known scholars and intellectuals.

 

The new edition, addressed to the reader, comprehensively analyzes the language of the ancient Turkic written monuments found in the Orkhon River valley in phonetic, lexical, morphological and syntactic aspects, reveals the continuity of the languages of modern Turkic peoples. The author based his research on the texts of the important monuments of Tonyukok, Kultegin, Bilge Qaghan, Ongin, Kul-chur. At the end of the book, the text, transcription and translation into Russian of a number of monuments, indexes of the grammatical form and a small dictionary are attached. It is worth noting that in the second edition, published by the Turkic Academy, errors previously made for technical reasons were corrected.


In addition, during the conference, a special honor was given to the the eldest daughter of the scientist, Saule Gubaidullaqızı by the Turkic Academy.
