Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, President of Turkic Academy

Shahin Mustafayev, a well-known Azerbaijani scholar, received his Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and he got Doctor’s degree at the Institute of Asian and African Countries at the Moscow State University, named after M.V. Lomonosov.

Mr. Mustafayev is the author of 6 books and more than 100 scientific articles. His studies are more focused on the medieval history and culture of the Middle East and Central Asian people. He was a visiting scholar at many academic institutions and universities, including the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Istanbul University, and Indiana University. From 2008 to 2013, Mr. Mustafayev was the Director of the International Institute for Central Asia Studies, affiliated with UNESCO. Further, for many years, he worked in senior positions at the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Mustafayev was appointed as the President of the Turkic Academy at the Ninth Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on 11 November 2022.
